At 7 PM in the evening following the unveiling of the Daniel Boone Trail Highway marker, Senator James Broyhill will speak on the history of the Overmountain Victory Trail and the historic campaign to the Battle of Kings Mountain in the Revolutionary War. In 1980, Senator Broyhill introduced legislation which was approved by Congress and signed by then President Jimmy Carter designating the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail. Elkin is fortunate to have a beautiful segment of this historic federal linear park in our town.
Senator Broyhill’s talk will be held at the Elkin Center of Surry Community
College (off North Bridge Street at the NC 268 bypass) in Elkin, NC. Citizens of
Wilkes, Surry and Yadkin are invited to attend.
These events are sponsored by Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce, Elkin Valley Trails
Association and the Wilkes-Surry Chapter of the Overmountain Victory Trail Association.
