Request for Proposals: Bridge of Dreams at Carter Falls

Elkin Valley Trails Association is seeking design-build proposals for a 150-foot pedestrian suspension bridge at Carter Falls in Wilkes County, North Carolina.

Key dates

• October 15, 2026: RFP issued
• November 12 and 13, 10:00 AM: site visits, Carter Falls parking area (other dates on request)
• December 1: proposals due
• December 8: recommendation to the EVTA board
• January 2027: contract award and notice to proceed

What we are looking for

• A turnkey design-build team: design, engineering, permitting support, construction, and testing
• A span of about 150 feet with a 4-foot walkway, for pedestrians only
• An iconic design, with towers of steel, fiberglass, stone, or timber
• A lower-cost approach than our earlier design

Who should respond
Firms or teams authorized to work in North Carolina, with NC-licensed design professionals, experience on cable-supported pedestrian bridges or similar structures, and adequate bonding and insurance. Full requirements are in the RFP.
