Latest News & Trail Progress…

A HUGE thank you to all the volunteers – at least 36 of you – who made some serious progress on the E&A Rail Trail on Saturday, March 10.  For all of you who weren’t able to be there this time, we wanted to share the great results.  We surprised even ourselves by clearing about a mile of trail, from the first crossing of Elkin Creek to the second crossing at the Town reservoir.  And we did it with lots of smiles and fun!

So THANK YOU to all our volunteers who are so passionate about creating this trail in the Elkin Valley!  And also to 21 & Main for spontaneously offering to feed us all with some really good sandwiches; also to Judy Wolfe of Jonesville’s “Hands Across the River” for providing water and for really getting that we’re all doing this “together”.

LOST & FOUND – Please reply to this email if you are missing a water jug and/or a fanny pack from the March 10 workday.

One more example of great community spirit…Weyerhaeuser has donated mulch for the Riverfront Trail at Crater Park – THANK YOU!

We’ll keep you posted about the next workday, so stay tuned.

BOOTS, BRIDGES & BOOGIE at the LIBERTY…….Don’t forget to save the date – Tuesday, JUNE 26 – for our Jump Blues with Dennis Gruenling & the Jeweltones FUNDRAISER to be held in the soon-to-be-finished Liberty events venue in Downtown Elkin!  Your support will help us build two 90-foot suspension bridges over the Elkin Creek on the E&A Rail Trail.  This is a critical step in getting us all on the Trail!  More details soon.

TOUR de YADKIN – Help us welcome the Yadkin Riverkeeper and paddlers to Elkin on Friday evening, June 8 at Crater Park for food, fun and more.  Dean Naujoks and fellow paddlers will join EVTA and you the next morning for a hike from Crater Park, through Downtown Elkin to the first Elkin Creek crossing on the E&A Rail Trail.  All to celebrate this new community spirit for our River Trail, OVT and trails-in-progress in the Elkin Valley.  Stay tuned for more details or visit YadkinRiverkeeper.org
